Wow — Its almost time to pack up to go on a vacation. Get the airport stuff done. Yah Yah Yah you know the really boring stuff unless you are like me…everything is medially fun. So I Leave Anchorage and and like 5 hours later I am in Denver. My Mother and Father pick me up from the “airport”. I see Smiley Face cheered to see me . We drove about a million miles it seemed and made it BACK TO HOME. I spent my few starting days chattery like a billowing smoke shaft. Cheering and sharing about my life in a city of wilderness called Anchorage – A city of Champions. The night faded and the dreams begin jaded the moonlight in my heart shone a loud snore before I woke to the shore from a uneasy natural alarm deep inside of me.

Few days of family s-mores of burnt arms and sure, please and thank you. We were camping in a mobile honest delight…. A raging force of the AC blaring its dare to chill the men and women in fear of the sunlight’s hugging lair.

I love the burnt cheesy brats on the stick into the miniature pits of hell.

My tan was fair and hot and sorry…There was nothing left to share.

We pack the blazer full of stuff and back tracked a billion ant steps.

I was back on my computer….playing video game of my teenage sheer bliss.

A longing to please your earthly desires – I longed to find the one who helped made me!

With info from my Madre I was about to find my bio-padre.

With true prayer – an answer will appear…. Sometime not today, a week or a year — with a humble patience heart it could a person’s lifetime of so far.

I am sure by now that global warming is not what they say — I say why not go with your own gut and common sense there? My Folk’s back from the woods in Kansas always ask about the weather. How much light ya’ll gittin there? is the snow gone? is it still snowing? So I decided to look up some of the average light/rain&snowfall/temp chart…as you can see above ya….

The most interesting thing that I am seeing is that the most “change” is in the spring and summer area.
The longer the sun is out the higher the temperature?

Why does it rain more than snow?

Anyway – Today is odd…it is snowing like crazy and Taxes are due tomorrow. Maybe mother nature didn’t do her taxes in Alaska…..

A zoetrope is a device that produces an illusion of action from a rapid succession of static pictures. The term zoetrope is from the Greek words ζωή – zoe, "life" and τρόπος – tropos, "turn". It may be taken to mean "wheel of life".

It consists of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides. Beneath the slits on the inner surface of the cylinder is a band which has either individual frames from a video/film or images from a set of sequenced drawings or photographs. As the cylinder spins the user looks through the slits at the pictures on the opposite side of the cylinder’s interior. The scanning of the slits keeps the pictures from simply blurring together so that the user sees a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion, the equivalent of a motion picture. Cylindrical zoetropes have the property of causing the images to appear thinner than their actual sizes when viewed in motion through the slits.

Invention

The earliest elementary zoetrope was created in China around 180 AD by the inventor Ting Huan (丁緩). Driven by convection Ting Huan’s device hung over a lamp and was called "The Pipe Which Makes Fantasies Appear".^[1] The rising air turned vanes at the top from which were hung translucent paper or mica panels. Pictures painted on the panels would appear to move if the device is spun at the right speed.^[2][3][4][5]

The modern zoetrope was invented in 1833 by British mathematician William George Horner. He called it the ‘Daedalum’ popularly translated as ‘the wheel of the devil’ though there is no evidence of this etymology. More likely it is a reference the to Greek myth of Daedalus. It didn’t become popular until the 1860s, when it was patented by makers in both England and America. The American developer, William F. Lincoln, named his toy the ‘zoetrope’, which means ‘wheel of life.’

Almost simultaneously similar inventions were made independently in Belgium by Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau (Phenakistoscope) and Austria by Simon von Stampfer (Stroboscope).

The zoetrope worked on the same principles as the phenakistiscope, but the pictures were drawn on a strip which could be set around the bottom third of a metal drum, with the slits now cut in the upper section of the drum. The drum was mounted on a spindle so that it could be spun, and viewers looking through the slits would see the cartoon strip form a moving image. The faster the drum is spun, the smoother the image that is produced.

Modern times

William F Lincoln promoted Horner’s device in the United States as a "zoetrope".

The praxinoscope was an improvement on the zoetrope that became popular toward the end of the nineteenth century.

The earliest projected moving images were displayed by using a magic lantern zoetrope. This crude projection of moving images occurred as early as the 1860s. A magic lantern praxinoscope was demonstrated in the 1880s.

Zoetrope development continues into the twenty-first century, primarily with the "Linear zoetrope." A linear zoetrope consists of an opaque linear screen with thin vertical slits in it. Behind each slit is an image, often illuminated. One views the motion-picture by moving past the display.

Linear zoetropes have several differences compared to cylindrical zoetropes that derive from their different geometries. They can have arbitrarily long animations. They also cause images to appear wider than their actual sizes when viewed in motion through the slits.

In September 1980, independent film-maker Bill Brand installed a type of linear zoetrope he called the "Masstransiscope" in an unused subway platform at Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. It consisted of a linear wall with 228 slits in the face. Behind each slit was a hand-painted panel. Riders in subways moving past the display saw a motion-picture within. After falling into a state of disrepair, the "Masstransiscope" was restored in late 2008.^[6]

Joshua Spodek, as an astrophysics graduate student, conceived of and led the development of a class of linear zoetropes that saw the first commercial success of a zoetrope in over a century. A display of his design debuted in September 2001 in a tunnel of the Atlanta subway system and showed an advertisement to riders moving past. That display is internally lit and nearly 300 meters long. Its motion-picture was about twenty seconds long.

His design soon appeared in subway systems elsewhere in North America, Asia, and Europe. Joshua has also participated in a renaissance in zoetrope related art and other noncommercial expression.

A Zoetrope was used in the filming of a music video entitled "My Last Serenade by Killswitch Engage. It features a woman looking through the slits on a Zoetrope while it moves, and as she looks closer, the camera moves through the slits into the Zoetrope where the band is playing the song.

In April 2006, the Washington Metro installed advertising using the zoetrope system between the Metro Center and Gallery Place subway stations.^[7] A similar advertisement was installed on the PATH train in New Jersey, between the World Trade Center and Exchange Place stations.

A similar zoetrope-type advertisement appeared at about the same time on the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system between the Embarcadero and Montgomery stations, which could be viewed by commuters travelling in either direction. The BART ads are still visible at the present time, however the ads are infrequently changed and oftentimes a particular ad may remain up for several months before being replaced.

The Ghibli Museum hosts a zoetrope using 3D figures on a rotating disk. Rather than slits or mirrors, a strobing LED is used. The animation on this zoetrope is inspired by My Neighbour Totoro.

Pixar created a zoetrope inspired by Ghibli‘s for its 20th anniversary celebration at the Museum of Modern Art, featuring characters from Toy Story. The exhibit is currently on display at Disney’s California Adventure, sister park to Disneyland. The Zoetrope was on display with Pixar’s 20 Years of Animation exhibit at the Australian Centre of the Moving Image (ACMI) from 28 June to 14 October 2007^[8], and was later (April-September 2008) shown at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2007 an image of a zoetrope, where a futuristic city with flying cars was viewed through the shape of a number two, was unveiled as one of BBC Two’s new idents.

In 2009 the E4 drama program Skins released silent preview clips of Series 4 to coincide with their Mash Up competition. One of the clips featured the character Emily Fitch, looking into a zoetrope.

Blue Man Group uses a zoetrope at the Las Vegas show as well as at the Sharp Aquos Theater at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.

In November 2009, Timothy Adam Abad, and his family (1) created the "Weebatron", the first center perspective 3D zoetrope. The "Weebatron" was unveiled at the "Weebleworld -music and arts festival" in Pomona, California. In 2008 Sony built a 10 meter wide, 10 tonne zoetrope, called the BRAVIA-drome, to promote their motion interpolation technology. Sixty-four images of the Brazilian footballer Kaká were used to demonstrate that with increased frame rate (rotation rate of the zoetrope), there is increased smoothness of motion.^[11] This has been declared the largest zoetrope in the world by Guinness World Records.^[12][13]

I have to say that I am very grateful to live in city where the word “melting-pot” is reached agreeable upon many people. Anchorage, The largest city on the Last Frontier – Nicely tucked into a space that only you and I can understand by map or plane. The uniqueness of this city is far from static, more specially, the culture aspect. In general, most people would say mixing cultures is the norm – In America, People from all sorts of lands come to be free and live the American dream.

The majority of things I like are the results of exploration of cultures. When I was younger, I was introduced to Mexican food. My next door neighbors were matured older adults from Mexico. I learned so much from them. Learning to speak Spanish, understanding the culture and allowing me to teach them more English slang.

When I was ten, sadly the culture for me changed to a more limited flair for me because I moved into a different town (much smaller town). I have no regrets however but I believe the change was a sub-culture within it. Where was the exchange of differences? I certainly was not open to the fact that our town was one flavored race. I hope I am not I am offending anyone, but when a small town becomes one culture all-round it can become stale (cultural speaking). I believe that the town has changed a little since then but it truly does make an impact on a child when they grow up.

I often think about mixing paint together – Its part of my artist background in me I assume. Just think about the place you live in. What type canvas is it? The people around you, what media/medium are you?

I think the positive experience that I received as a child created some sort of yearning for change in my life. When I went to college I was re-introduced to culture melting again, it wasn’t truly melting together, still this was sub-cultured with separation. The town was much bigger but still had a degree of ghetto-ism. I have to admit that any place you live in or where ever you visit there will always be separation. When I decided to further my goals somewhere else. I landed a place where I truly saw and became part of the melting pot. Anchorage is that place, I understood my place and the cultures started to kindled together in my head.

I was taken away from this experience this weekend when I had some food at the mall. Mexican food created by Asians? I was curious so I had to try it. They mixed the cultures together other than our Americanized versions. Asian style Mexican food? I have to admit – it was different but I enjoyed it. I had a spicy chicken burrito with Asian flavors. Rice and beans to go with it.

I was not thrilled today opening my email …. Subject line stating:  “Thank you for your recent inquire”. I was like…Hmm some sort of scam spammer wanting money from some blankly country. I was interested and wanted to know who this is. I opened it and stared at the company logo….It looked familar. Hmm… I opened the attached .pdf… and then a light came over me.

I remember when I was researching services and products: collaboration tools for all staff. I wanted a portal/email/calendar/room booking all in one based on Microsoft Active Directory Authentication or LDAP type Authentication: which Authenticates all of our staff users thus saves us time and effort creating user/pass systems. The company offered this great web-based portal system that offered all of the things I needed. I wanted to view the demo…..I had to fill out the form and I waited and waited, after about few days… I gave up. Six Months Later I recieve an email.

It seems though we are living in 2009. It took over couple months to just receive a request demo account to view your product. I believe that is very unacceptable. What would people say or more like your boss for an example: spent the time to fill-out your Inquiry form and waited over x of time. I hope I my just one of few that has fallen between the cracks of customer service. Pamela, I understand your probably not at fault in this ordeal but I highly mention the issue with your supervisor and find ways to improve your company’s front appearance. Please Forward this copy to your manager and I request a demo of this product immediately. I expect a formal email from your manager also.

I was rather disappointed at a management side of view. Customer Service is mainly your storefront view. If you have an entry door with grumpy greeters…. do you really want to do business at that store? If I see someone not responding to a client….they are out of line. Its sad to say that many companies are like this….. some managers do not have to sufficient skills to train employees on behalf of Customer Service or Less and Less Hiring Agents fail at checking a future employee to see whether or not the person is truly fit for the job.

I was happy and felt completed when I got a prompt reply though.

This is just a few of many of sad but true events in Customer Service. I decided to look into upper manager style to speak with core powers to preach the Gospel of Customer Service and in hopes to helping the business to achieve goals and not just whine about it. But its just funny…. people’s managers are always on vacation when you request to speak with them?

I find myself thinking about things that are straight-out weird. What you don’t believe me? I think about the oddest things like imaginary things like mushrooms attacking Tomatoes… creating emotion with something that is not there. I often catch up on my daydreaming so… while I was programming this certain script for a database project. My mind became a canvas for creating logical solutions… the variables became like little characters…. after programming these little guys I would write little commands loop…If statements….whatever functions I was using they were war-men fighting off data killers . I made my tasks enjoyable at the time being…. look after 30 + hours on a project..only the pixels on the screen started to make sense. So when I dream and stuff… I see like neon tigers barking like dogs and seeing myself painting metaphors on the wall made of cherry licorice twist… I know its wacky. What Can I do? Its interesting to me though… Every since I have allowed my brain juices to flow like draino on a clogged drain.  I have been able to create solutions. Its not thinking outside the box but just bending the straight lines that make the box. Another thing that is interesting to me is my brain injury conjuncture with my creativity. After 13 years of dealing with my own brain after an accident … I have learned that I can use something good out of something bad. It similar to creating something yummy like some cottage cheese out of rotted milk. So with my injured Brain that works fairly okay at times… something happend to its creative side of it (right side). It beats me in to telling…. I just don’t know. The only thing I can think of is the brain trying to overcome its barriers. My damage was done the left side of the skull…like major crazy. Us Humans need and crave communication through words, music, touch and other things like food. Communication is like a drug to us. It allows us to share or accept the things that we need to live a life. However, my main connectors on the left side of the brain are damaged therefore it takes a detour through the right side of the brain.
